Even though the 42nd National Day takes place during Ramadhan, a month full of blessing, the approach and form of celebration must be adjusted inline with the need for moderation, internalising the values of piety, and the glory of Ramadhan. This was underlined by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports on 18th December afternoon at the First Meeting of the 42nd National Day Celebration Executive Committee. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi Mohamad as Co-Chairperson of the meeting explained that the adjustment is not unusual, given that the country once carried out a similar celebration during Ramadhan. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Yang Berhormat said next year's celebration will be designed in a more prudent manner, emphasising on religious elements without reducing the historical value and significant meaning of the National Day itself. Even though it is celebrated during Ramadhan, the patriotism and love towards the nation are the core of the celebration.
The meeting was co-chaired by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs; and Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd. Salleh, Minister of Education as Co-Chairpersons. Also in attendance was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence as the Co-Advisor.
